On most islands a private transfer is sold on one promise: a price fixed before you land. Curaçao is the exception — taxis here do not run on meters at all, but on fixed government zones, so the fare into Willemstad is knowable before you book anything. A pre-booked transfer at Curaçao International Airport (CUR) therefore has to earn its place on something else, and it does: on how many of you there are, on what time you land, and on how much you are carrying.
What the zone fare already gives you
Licensed taxis wait at the rank outside arrivals — plates carry a TX — and the zone fare covers the whole car and your bags for up to four passengers: roughly $35 into central Willemstad, $30 to Mambo Beach, $45 to Jan Thiel, about $70 out to Westpunt. Willemstad is 12 km away, a 15 to 20 minute drive. No haggling, no meter, no surprise at the far end, provided you confirm the figure and whether it is per car or per person before setting off.
So what does a transfer add?
Capacity past four. The zone fare stops covering you at the fifth passenger, and a second taxi doubles the bill: five people into central Willemstad is two cars and about $70 rather than $35, and five to Jan Thiel is $90 rather than $45. A booked minivan is priced for the party, not the seat.
A driver who is already there. On a late landing the rank is the one thing that thins out, and a name board in the hall removes that risk entirely.
The night and Sunday premium. Zone fares rise somewhat in the small hours and on Sundays; a transfer booked in advance is quoted once and stays that number.
Kit and car seats. Dive gear, a buggy, two child seats — these are ordered with the vehicle rather than hoped for at the kerb.

Read the bottom row before you decide: the Konvooi bus 4B runs into Otrobanda roughly hourly from about 07:00 to 23:00 on Monday to Saturday — buses 2A and 2C serve Punda less often — with a later start and wider gaps on Sundays. Drive times from the airport are 15 to 20 minutes to Willemstad, 20 to 25 to Mambo Beach and 25 to 30 to Jan Thiel, so a transfer booked to the wrong district costs you time as well as money. Land at 22:30 on a Sunday and the bus is not an option at all, which is exactly when a pre-booked driver is worth the difference.
Settle these when you book
- The flight number, not just the arrival time, so the driver tracks the landing rather than the timetable.
- The vehicle against your bag count — dive gear takes the space of a passenger.
- Whether the quoted price is the total, including any airport access charge.
- Child seats, in advance and by age, rather than on the day.

Payment is in Caribbean guilders (XCG) or US dollars, and cards are widely accepted — the guilder replaced the old ANG in 2025 at the same rate, so an older quote in ANG means the same money.
